Challenge
To create environmental designed pieces that stay within the previously established brand identity of UT and University Unions, while simultaneously working with the environment to blend with the landscape of the campus or the landscape of a refurbishment perimeter.
Goal
To create pieces that must be displayed outdoors or within indoor common areas to bring attention to life on campus or new refurbishments that maybe taking place while keeping with UT's brand identity.
Solution
With the Hogg Memorial Auditorium refurbishment, I decided to create a design that would fall in line with the university's brand identity that would tie elements of previously approved colors but also using concept art of the refurbished area as part of the design. This would help to bring awareness and attention to the area that was being worked on but also elevate the fenced perimeter that the construction crew had implemented. For the banner, I decided to implement a more modernized look that the university had launched for that year, while tying in the elements necessary to bring recognition to the building for incoming freshman students.
For the indoor signage, we created new display systems that would create the feeling that they were previously created for this historical landmark building. Due to the restrictions placed on historical landmarks, we had to create a display that would pay respects to the styling already in place but that would allow us to change out the signage it holds easily. In the designs themselves, I decided to play closer to the brand identity of the university's branding toolkit by using collaging, UT's dot pattern, and the university's staple of burnt orange.
